How to Pick the Right Washing Machine Suited for Your Needs

When you're looking to buy a washing machine apart from price and energy label the other most significant details are drum capacity and spin speed - and both can increase the price.
When buying a machine which has a high spin speed this should leave less water in your laundry and take less time to dry, a bigger capacity drum will be able to get more clothes in meaning using fewer washes.
A sales agent or television ads will always imply bigger specification is better; however it will cost the consumer far more and not always required.
Let's look at the 2 points in a bit more depth:
Larger or smaller drum size
The size of a drum is something you should definitely consider if you become easily frustrated doing lots of loads.
If you're one of these people then you might want to consider a bigger washing load such 8-12 kg.
As a general rule of thumb a family of four (two adults and two small children) would probably do about 5 washes a week and are more than likely to choose a larger capacity washing machine.
A recent Survey by a major retail outlet shows most household use a drum size 7 kg on average which definitely more than adequate.
Verdict- realistically you will only get 80% load into your washing machine and the other advantage would be water and energy use per kilogram is lower when filled up, so considering you will be using more water per wash it's a good idea to fill up the load close to its maximum capacity.
Overall its definitely worth considering if it's for the bigger size family, but not if it's a few of you or you don't mind regular washes.
The spin factor
The up to date washing machines possess a much higher speed such as 1400 revolutions per minute (rpm), 1600rpm or even 1800rpm spin speed, with the average machine being 1200 rpm.
Faster speed definitely increases the price but it also makes them noisier which is difficult to spot as you can't test a product before you take it home.
When considering speed of spin you really need to ask yourself what type of washing you are doing such as lower spin speeds are needed for delicate clothing.
However most modern washing machines let you adjust the speed of spin and the main advantage of having a higher spin speed your clothes will need less time to dry so less use of tumble drier.
Verdict - higher specification is useful if you want your clothes drier much quicker.
Then again lower spin speeds are needed for delicate clothing and is known to reduce creasing.
For most households average specification is more than adequate and most new washing machines have the option of variable spin speed option for delicate clothing.
Other features you may wish to consider are delayed start, electronic display and overdosing that can add value to your washing machine.
